Boats arrive at Mae Haad pier on the west coast of the island. From here you will be bombarded by touts selling dive packages and hotel rooms among other things. Make sure you’ve done your homework before you get there by exploring our map of Koh Tao and identifying the beach you’d like to stay at.
Koh Tao is only about 8km from top to bottom so at this size you have the option of walking to most places on the island except Mango Bay and Koh Nang Yuan on the northern side. For these, and others if you don’t fancy walking, you can take longtail boats from Mae Haad and Sairee Beach to pretty much anywhere you need to get to on the island. The usual motorbike and songathaew taxi’s are also on hand, just as you’d expect!
Unless you’re looking to land a dive package and accommodation deal on arrival you would be best advised to book a room in advance to avoid disappointment.
