Koh Phangan is most famous for it’s full moon parties and laid back vibe. Backpackers have been flocking here for a long time to soak up the sun on its best beaches and kick back in hammocks whilst watching the sun drop into the ocean on the horizon.

In recent years there has been much more in the way of development on the island but it would be wrong to assume that the beauty of this place has disappeared as a result. The beaches on the north and northwest of the island have kept their charm intact and allow those true feelings of escapism to this day. If you’re thinking of staying here, use the map above to explore the island’s different beaches before choosing your favourite.

If you’d like more information and ideas on where to stay then check out our extensive bungalows guide which allows you to search by map, beach and recommendation.

It’s easier than ever to get to Koh Phangan these days, with an increasing amount of flights coming into nearby Koh Samui from where a short boat journey will get you there in around half an hour. Trains and buses from Bangkok serve Surat Thani and Chumphon on the mainland where you can also pick up the boat across to Phangan. A guide book will serve you well for the time you’re on the island but use our Koh Phangan map to prepare yourself before your arrival.
